Corning, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) A man was arrested after a Corning Police Officer caught him in a drug deal in progress.
On April 23, around 8:45 p.m., an officer was on patrol on West 6th Street, in Corning.
While on patrol, the officer interrupted a drug deal in progress. While trying to arrest the suspected drug dealer, the dealer resisted and fled the scene on foot.
After a foot chase, the officer caught the suspect, who continued to struggle and resist.
Taiwan Dennard, 34, of Elmira NY, was taken into custody by the officer and other members of the Corning Police Department, who responded to the scene.
The pursuing officer sustained a fractured bone in his arm during the physical struggle. He was treated at a local hospital and later released.
Dennard is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (possession with intent to sell), a class B felony, and assault in the second degree (assault upon a police officer), a class D felony.
A quantity of cocaine and cash were also seized during the investigation.
Dennard was taken to the Steuben County Jail on $25,000 cash or $50,000 property bond.
According to police, the investigation will continue and further arrests are possible.
