Suspect arrested for Norwich storage center fire

Town of Norwich, NY (WBNG Binghamton) New York State Police at Norwich arrested a man in connection with a fire at the Storage Center on Nov. 29, 2013.

State police said Michael J.C. Golotty, 25, was located and arrested in Elmira Monday.

He initially became a suspect because he was associated with an individual who owned a storage unit where the fire was set.

The fire destroyed 40 units and one of them held thousands of dollars worth of toys for Toys for Tots in Chenango County.

State Police said the dollar loss is more than $300,000 but is expected to come in higher because they have not received all of the individual claims yet.

Golotty was arraigned in the Norwich Town Court and taken to Chenango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.

State Police said Golotty is from the Norwich area but was reportedly homeless at the time of the fire.

Charges:
-One count, arson. third degree, Class C Felony
-One count, burglary third degree, Class D Felony
-40 counts of Criminal Mischief third degree, Class E Felony, he was charged one count for each storage unit
