Man caught with hundreds of bags of heroin

(WBNG Binghamton) A man was caught transporting hundreds of bags of heroin packaged for sale.

Detectives from the Broome County Sheriff’s Office received information that John Tipler, 45, of Afton, would be transporting narcotics.

Tipler was stopped just before 3 p.m. Thursday in Sanitaria Springs, after he was spotted in a car on Interstate 88, according to detectives.

Detectives said Tipler was pulled over just as he was getting off at exit 4 on the interstate.

Tipler was found to be in possession of 221 bags of heroin packaged for sale.

The detective division was assisted by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol Division.

Tipler was taken the Broome County Jail without bail.

He is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony.
