Man killed, two severely injured in Susquehanna car crash

Clifford Township, PA (WBNG Binghamton) A Susquehanna County man died and two men suffered injuries after a car crash Friday evening.

Pennsylvania State Police reported Zachary Dayton, 30, Clifford, died at the scene of the crash.

The crash happened on State Route 106 near the intersection with Oswald Johnson Road in Clifford Township around 6:30 p.m.

Dayton was driving a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis Sedan when he crossed the center lines of the road while making a right hand curve.

Robert Swingle, 36, Carbondale, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche SUV with passenger Sean Burnham , 24, Carbondale, in the opposite lane coming toward Dayton.

Police said Swingle tried to avoid Dayton, but the two cars crashed head on.

Dayton was thrown from his car.

Swingle and Burnham were entrapped in the car and were removed by crews at the scene.

Police said both were severely injured and were transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The crash is still under investigation.

Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance, Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance, Harford Township Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance and Forest City Ambulance all assisted at the scene.
