Man sentenced in downtown stabbing

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The man who stabbed another man outside of the Broome County Public Library was sentenced Wednesday in Broome County Court.

Wilfredo Hernandez, 51, was sentenced to three and a half years in state prison and five years of probation after his release.

In January, Hernandez stabbed Kendu Johnson, 30, in the chest on the corner of Jay Street and Court Street.

Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski said a dispute over a "very small" amount of money several months before the attack prompted Hernandez.

Police said Hernandez was preparing to flee to New York City before he was arrested.

Hernandez plead down from a charge of attempted murder to attempted assault.
