Mayor weighs in on city after fire

April 30, 2014 Updated Apr 30, 2014 at 5:55 PM EDT

Binghamton, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) Mayor Rich David praised those who were quick to respond to the fire at the Ellis Brothers Furniture store.

David called the work of the Binghamton Fire Department on Wednesday morning "outstanding."

According to the mayor, there was a bit of luck in the timing of the fire as well.

"If there was a silver lining in this, it's that the timing that this fire took place was during a shift change downtown," stated David. "So, you had a shift of firefighters that was about to leave and another one coming on; so both shifts responded."

David also applauded the business community downtown for coming together and for providing help where necessary.
