Town of Maine, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The airport is a place to say hello and goodbye to friends and family, but for Military families it can be an emotional time.

The Greater Binghamton Airport opened the doors to its new Military Family Room.

The $8,000 room is funded by the Veterans Trust Account through the New York State Real Estate Transfer Tax.

The room is furnished with couches and a flat screen television through Olum's Department Store.

It was created to give families of military members a private place to say hello and goodbye to their soldiers.

"Before this room existed they would go over to the seating area which is very public area. The TSA came to us and ask if there was a chance to have a room where they could escort them in and give them privacy," said Carl Beardsley, the Greater Binghamton Airport Aviation Commissioner.
