(WBNG Binghamton) A missing Fort Drum soldier was arrested late Friday after local police said they found him stealing from cars in Johnson City.
Earlier Friday, New York State Police asked for the public's help in locating the missing soldier, Gilbert Lee, 22.
They said he had been missing since Thursday and that Lee's vehicle was found abandoned on Interstate-81 South in the Town of Barker around 10:30 p.m.
The keys were in the ignition and there were bullets in the car.
State police initiated a foot and air search.
According to state police, he had not made contact with any known person, which is highly unusual for him. Troopers also believed he may have been carrying a rifle, but didn't think anyone was in danger.
On Friday night, Johnson City police found Lee. He was arrested on disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to state police.
Troopers stated that besides attempting to steal from cars, Lee also appeared to be disturbed, yelling out phrases from the Bible and knocking on someone's door.
State police caught wind of the arrest and stopped the search.
Lee was taken to the Broome County Correctional Facility.
