Mygatt murder suspects plead not guilty
(WBNG Binghamton) The two men charged with the brutal killing of a former roommate and the beating and rape of his pregnant fiance pleaded not guilty Friday in Broome County Court. And they faced a new set of charges. Nigel Saunders, 25, and Julian R. Talamantez, 21, were arraigned Friday morning on charges connected to the beating of Jordan Dordell, 23, and his fiance at their home at 32 Mygatt St. A Broome County grand jury charged Saunders and Talamentez with two counts each of second degree murder, burglary, robbery and assault for the death of Dordell and the assault of his 19-year-old fiancee. Talamantez is also charged with first degree murder, first degree attempted murder, rape, criminal sexual assault and arson. Broome County Prosecutor Gerald Mollen said the rape and sexual assault charges were related to Talamentez's alleged conduct with the woman. Saunders and Talamantez were taken to the Broome County jail without bail. Authorities have said Saunders lived with Dordell. Saunders was also on probation, after being released from prison one month before the Nov. 4 incident. Dordell's fiancee was six months pregnant at the time of the assault, police said. Police say the woman "played dead," and was able to escape through a basement window, where the two were tied up, stabbed, doused with lighter fluid and set on fire. She and her baby are expected to survive. Family members previously told Action News that Dordell forced Saunders out after he tried to steal from the home.
