New York, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A bipartisan group of New York government officials left for Israel Tuesday evening.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo was joined by Senate Majority Co-Leaders Dean Skelos and Jeff Klein, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and several other New York representatives for this two-day trip overseas.
"Our message is simple and is clear," said Cuomo. "We stand with Israel and we support Israel's right to defend itself in this conflict."
The purpose of the trip is to show New York's support of Israel in light of the continued threat of attacks by Hamas and other terrorist organizations.
The group will meet with Israeli leadership and visit with Israelis affected by the fighting.
New York is home to more than 1.7 million Jews, representing the largest Jewish community in the world outside of Israel.
