Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Children from New York City are in staying in the Southern Tier and surrounding areas for a summer getaway.

The Fresh Air Fund bused inner-city children to the area Tuesday afternoon to experience the countryside.

It's a way for city kids to get away from the city and enjoy a slower, more scenic lifestyle.

"Our children responded really well to it," said Monique Gee, of Endwell.

For the next two weeks, her family will be sponsoring 10-year-old Ricky from Brooklyn, N.Y.

They've been hosting Ricky every summer for the past four years.

"We look forward to it each year and I know that if God provides us a child to foster or adopt, our children will be ready and willing to do that," said Gee.

According to the Fresh Air Fund, nearly 4,000 children from New York City will be placed in homes throughout the northeast portion of the country this year.

The Fresh Air Fund said more children will be coming up in August and they are always looking for more host families.
