Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A man on LSD was taken to the hospital after he ran though downtown Ithaca naked and was struck by a car.

The incident first started on Cayuga Lake, when Ithaca Police were dispatched to the Lighthouse Pier area, north of Newman Golf Course, for a person who was yelling for help.

The call came in around 8:15 p.m. Saturday.

An off duty officer was at the Treman Marina when the call came in and could see a person on the pier screaming for help.

According to the police report, a boat from the marina was then commandeered by the off duty police officer.

The boat’s owner, along with a licensed boat captain, an off duty Vestal firefighter and the off duty police officer, searched the area of water for what was being reported as a person in the water.

Rescue vessels from the Ithaca Fire Department and NYS Park Police were also launched. The boats searched the water, but found nothing.

Police who responded to the pier on foot located the reported missing person’s clothing along the pier, but not the person.

About 45 minutes into the search, police received a report of a man running through downtown Ithaca naked.

The naked man, Derek Deboer, 20, of Ithaca was reported to have been struck by a car.

When police found Deboer, he began to fight with officers, who then had to subdue him with a Taser after he attempted to remove an officer’s handgun from her holster.

Police quickly realized the two incidents were related. The naked man was the same person that was reported to have fallen into the water.

Deboer told officers at the scene that he and his friend were partying earlier and were under the influence of marijuana and LSD.

He was transported to the Cayuga Medical Center by Bangs Ambulance.

His friend who was yelling for help was also transported to the hospital.

Charges:
-Attempted robbery in the third degree, a class D felony
-Attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class C felony
-Obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor
-Public appearance under the influence of drugs and/or narcotics, a violation
-Exposure of a person, a violation

Deboer is currently in Ithaca Police Department's custody awaiting arraignment.
