Binghamton, N.Y (WBNG Binghamton) Downtown Binghamton is adding another business into the mix, and it's part of a locally growing trend.

Mayor Matt Ryan and other officials helped cut the ribbon on Simply Sweet today.

The new frozen yogurt shop on Washington Street brings a crowd favorite to an area full of students and workers.

Simply Sweet is unique in that it offers an alternative to frozen yogurt. There's a Chobani bar, which allows people to customize their Greek yogurt.

The store is family run, which owners believe will give it a different atmosphere compared to other restaurant chains.

"Our shop is slightly smaller than others, but we are not a huge franchise," said Brian Christophersen. "We're a small, tight-knit family business. We believe in more of a personal setting, so when you come into our shop, you'll notice there's usually a member of ownership here, typically. And we'll come up, we'll introduce ourselves, we'll talk to you."

Christophersen says the city and community have been supportive in bringing his family's dream to reality.

Simply Sweet is located at 136 Washington St.
