(WBNG Binghamton) New information has been released from Binghamton City Court on former Binghamton Police Capt. John Shea's appearance in court of November 14.
Shea appeared in court and plead guilty to Official Misconduct for taking $1,900 from a locked filing cabinet in the Captain's Office.
That money is part of the city budget and is used for law enforcement needs.
In Shea's official statement he recalls entering the office after his arraignment for a DWI on April 25.
Shea was arrested on March 18 for the DWI while driving a city vehicle.
Once in the office Shea grabbed a handful of money.
He says," I do not know why I took the money at that time. I used this money, $1,900 for my personal expenses. I intended to replace the $1,900 back into the safe, however I forgot about it."
