Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A new Republican chairman took the helm Wednesday in Broome County.
Bijoy Datta, of the town of Fenton, was unanimously elected as the new chairman of the Broome County Republican Committee at their re-organizational meeting held every other year.
Datta says with less than two months before the General Election in November, it's crunch time.
"We are late in the game obviously, we're in the fourth quarter when it comes to both mayor races in the city of Binghamton and in the village of Johnson City," Datta said. "So those are going to be top priorities right away."
Datta says he will help build the Republican party in Broome County and beyond by paying attention to small details.
His goal is to get more Republicans in office, and keep Republican values in local government.
Datta is also the Deputy County Executive.
He worked as the campaign manager and director of public affairs for Sen. Thomas Libous, R-Binghamton from 2002 to 2008.
