Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A regional LGBT program is celebrating a more permanent presence on Binghamton University's campus.

The Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project held a reception Monday night to celebrate their new office in Bartle Library.

The program helps LGBT-led families and parents with legal and medical advice, and also provides support for families from all over Upstate New York.

Program Director Claudia Stallman said moving into the library at BU will help the program.

"Being at Binghamton University gives us some tremendous opportunities: Some access to resources we didn't have before, access to volunteers - undergraduate, graduate students - and also the entire university community," Stallman said.

The project received a more than $600,000 grant with the help of the university's research foundation, which helped fund the move and will fund five more years of the program.
