Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) NYSDOT puts in new traffic lanes to ease congestion on Riverside Drive.

The New York Department of Transportation painted new left turn only lanes between Davis College and the CVS on Margaret Street.

NYSDOT says the new lanes were added in the interest of safety.

Davis College says it's pushed for a traffic light for a long time. Administrators are glad to see the change.

"But when you sit and wait for a long time, there's a tendency to want to rush out into the traffic which is not a good idea," said Davis College President Dr. Dino Pedrone, "And so I think those lanes will help us immensely here."

College officials say they're pleased to see the new addition, particularly as their college grows.

They expect traffic to be relieved, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.
