Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Local officials gathered Wednesday in Binghamton to celebrate new improvements made to the Walnut Street Park.

New lighting that's been added allowing more time at the park after dark.

Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan and City Council President Teri Rennia thanked New York State Assembly Woman Donna Lupardo for making the project possible. Lupardo was instrumental in securing funds for the improvements to happen.

The revitalization also included a walking path and green space.

"This is a park in a neighborhood that sorely needed some green space," said Rennia. "It sorely needed a place for children to be able to go and safely play and the residents in this neighborhood saw the need and the business people and they took the initiative."

Rennia said it's now a pleasant and safe place for the Binghamton community.

Walnut Street Park isn't the only one that has seen improvements. Sunflower Park and Bark Park have also been revitalized. Lupardo secured $15,000 for each of the three projects.
