Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A local 7-year-old boy battling cancer receives a healing gift at his home in Binghamton.
Action News Reporter Lindsay Nielsen takes us on a tour.
7-year-old Dillon Pook is not like other boys his age.
Dillon has T-cell non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
He was treated with chemotherapy and radiation, but his body did not respond as expected.
Last summer, Dillon received a stem cell transplant at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
During his struggle, his friends and family have been a great support system.
"I've been helping him out, like, 'cause one time I heard him crying on the phone 'cause he missed me and my grandparents," says Annaleise Pook, Dillon's sister.
Dillon was referred by a case worker as a candidate for the Room to Heal program.
The local non-profit organization serves children affected by serious medical conditions that will benefit from a healing environment in their home.
"It's gonna feel like nothing's...like I didn't even get that treatment," Dillon says.
He chose an ocean theme for his room, which was revealed with family and friends at his side.
Dillon's favorite thing that was given to him in his room reveal is his laptop, and he's already enjoying it.
"It's fantastic, and we're very grateful, and we're just happy that he finally has, you know, a kind of a silver lining to the whole ordeal that he's been going through," says Dillon's father, Cory Pook.
Funding for the project came from the 2009 Wendy's Walk for Kids.
Dillon is excited about everything in his room, taking the theme even further with plans to pick out live fish for a fish tank.
"Thank you 'Room To Heal' for doing my room. I appreciate it, and I never would have had that room if you didn't do it," says Dillon.
Dillon is currently in remission.
If he stays in remission for two years, than he is considered cancer-free.
His family says he's exceeding expectations already.
