UPDATE: Meth lab causes Newark Valley house explosion (with photos)

Newark Valley, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The cooking of methamphetamine caused a house explosion in Newark Valley, according to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office.

The Tioga County Sheriff's office says meth was being cooked at 6506 State Route 38.

Around 3 p.m. on Friday, there was an explosion that blew out the front door and window.

Investigators arrested a woman who lived there, 23-year-old Melissa Callahan. She's charged with unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine.

A person was taken to Wilson Hospital with reports of burns covering up to 75 percent of the body. Deputies did not comment on who was injured.

The house was severely damaged and the fire marshal condemned it Friday night, according to the fire department.
