No Holiday Hometown Lights

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Otsiningo Park in the Town of Dickinson will not light up for the holiday season as in many years past.

The Southern Tier Independence Center's Hometown Holiday Light Festival is canceled.

STIC provides assistance and services to people with disabilities of all ages to increase their independence,

Otsiningo Park flooded in September and the electrical system is not available to support the light show.

"Well the light show is a major fundraiser for us year after year and we derive funds from the light show that support our programs. So the flood coming in September really pulled a rug out from under us in terms of that kind of fundraising and we're missing that fundraising for this year," said STIC Director of Development Ron Siwiec.

He said the organization is not even sure if the event will return next year.

Siwiec hopes the appeals campaign for donations in 2012 will help close the fundraising gap left by the cancellation of the festival.
