Man wanted in NC caught during traffic stop

Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A sergeant with the Broome County Sheriff's Office caught a man wanted in North Carolina for felony assault during a traffic stop in Endwell.

Sgt. Thomas Williams arrested Steven Dewayne Mincey, 32, Apalachin, Saturday after pulling him over for an equipment violation.

According to the office, Mincey was unlicensed and wanted in North Carolina for felony assault with inflicting serious bodily injury, a probation violation.

The original charge was attempted murder involving a stabbing.

Troopers said Mincey left North Carolina in April and moved to New York.

Mincey is now charged as a fugitive from justice, a felony, with operating a vehicle with a cracked windshield and unlicensed operation, both violations.

He was arraigned in the Town of Union Court and sent to the Broome County Jail where he will wait extradition proceedings back to North Carolina.
