Norwich man arrested for substance abuse, resisting arrest

Norwich, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Chenango County Sherriffs Office arrested Shane Manwarren, 32, of Norwich, during a drug investigation at the Norwich Motor Lodge.

Manwarren is charged with two counts of harassment in the 2nd degree, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree, criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree with intent to sell, tampering with physical evidence, and criminal mischief 3rd degree.

During the course of the investigation at the Norwich Motor Lodge, Manwarren shoved a police officer and resisted arrest damaging a patrol vehicle, according to a news release. During a foot chase, police say he attempted to dispose of heroin, prescription medication and a hypodermic needle. All items were later recovered, and he was found to be in possession of more heroin.

Manwarren was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

The City of Norwich Police Department and New York State Police assisted with the investigation.
