Observing Good Friday
Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A procession moved through St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church Friday night to mark Good Friday. Christians around the world come together to pray on this day as part of Holy Week. Good Friday is a solemn day, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. "The service here at St. Michael's commemorates the removal of the body of Jesus Christ from the cross where he was crucified, carried in a procession and then brought to a tomb," Father Jim Dutko said. Saturday, St. Michael's will be open all day for people to come and pay their respects. "This event also leads to the resurrection. The cross always leads to the resurrection. And it has to do with our life too, the resurrection in this life that we are living." At 8 p.m., a service will focus on the transition from darkness to light as Easter approaches, the day when Jesus rose from dead.
