Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Johnson City is a village still in mourning.
Police Officer David "DW" Smith was laid to rest Friday with hundreds of law enforcement standing at guard in his honor.
Saturday night, there was a vigil at CFJ Park with candles lit in his memory.
"Thanks to all the people who brought flowers and the Johnson City Police Department for all the food and everybody else in the community," said Smith's son Andrew.
Smith was shot and killed in the line of duty Monday while responding to a call at Southern Tier Imaging.
At the vigil for his father, Andrew was joined by 100 people carrying candles singing Amazing Grace.
"I think it's a little sad, but overall, I'm glad to be here," said Andrew.
Smith used to bring Andrew to the same park where his vigil was Saturday night. The two would play on the carousel.
"A lot of people miss him and they're glad to be out here," said Andrew.
