Middlebury Twp., PA (WBNG Binghamton) One man is dead after he lost control of his car in Middlebury, Twp., PA.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Mansfield, Robert Whitmore, 60, of Middlebury Ctr., PA, died in an afternoon car crash on Saturday in Tioga County, PA.

Troopers said Whitmore was driving south on State Route 4017 at approximately 5 p.m. when he attempted to accelerate his 1973 Jeep Wrangler. But instead of shifting up, he shifted down and that caused him to lose control of his vehicle.

Whitmore traveled off the road and attempted to regain control of his jeep, but because of the momentum, the car flipped over and rolled two times.

Whitmore was partially ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Gary Wagner, 52, of Stroudsburg, PA, was the only passenger in the car. Troopers said he suffered minor injuries.
