Endicott man killed in 81-N crash

Great Bend Township, Pa. (WBNG Binghamton) An Endicott man was killed after being hit on the side of Interstate 81 northbound.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, David Decker, 73, had pulled over onto the shoulder to check his back tires. Police said a vehicle driven by Dylan Schmiel, 23, of Glens Falls, left the highway and hit the parked vehicle and Decker. The victim died at the scene.

The accident occurred between the Great Bend and New Milford exits around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Judith Decker, 71, of Endicott was a passenger in the Chevrolet Traverse driven by David Decker. She was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Schmiel, who was driving a Dodge Neon, was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

A portion of Interstate 81 northbound was closed for hours, while crews investigated and cleaned up the accident.

State Police are still investigating the crash.

Hallstead Fire, Hallstead Rescue and Great Bend Ambulance assisted at the scene.
