(WBNG Binghamton) The turns are dwindling for local carousels this season.

Labor Day will mark the closing of Broome County's six carousels until Memorial Day 2014.

At the C. Fred Johnson Park Saturday evening, several children didn't let the rain get in the way of their goodbye.

The carousel was installed at the park in 1923 and turned 90 this summer.

Those who help people get on and off say it has been a summer of smiles.

"People always come, there are always smiles on people's faces after they leave," said Emily Michalad. "There's also the carousel circuit that people enjoy a lot. You can go around throughout Johnson City and Endicott and ride all the carousels and you get a button. It makes people happy."

The carousels are open from noon to 8 p.m. through Monday.
