Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton)  A man who admitted to sexually assaulting and killing a former classmate was sentenced in Broome County Court.

Alan Outman  will serve twenty-five years to life in prison.

Outman plead guilty to killing David Fillers, 21, in Vestal in January.

David Fillers family members spoke to the court as did Outman.

A brother, Jonathan Fillers said no sentence would ease his pain. David's father, Tom, had to have his statement read. His mother, Ann, called David the brightest star.

Outman told the court he struggled with psychological issues and said everyday he regrests what he did.

Judge Martin Smith said while Outman was eligible for parole in twenty-five years, Outman deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life.
