Ithaca, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) An inmate died unexpectedly in his cell less than one day after he arrived to serve a 60 day sentence.

Travis Yavits, 32, of Ithaca, was taken to the Tompkins County jail on a larceny conviction at 4:44 p.m. on Tuesday.

Around 3:32 a.m. on Wednesday, Yavits was discovered dead in his bunk by a corrections officer making routine cell inspections.

Out of respect for Mr. Yavits and his family, no further information is being released at this time.
