Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Lights on the River Festival kicked off the holiday season in Owego with the sights and sounds of Christmas.

The lighting of the village took place on Friday night with plenty of carolers, musicians, lights, and even jugglers.

Family and friends filled the rainy streets, pausing for hot chocolate and homemade Christmas cookies.

Santa and Mrs. Claus took their place in a giant snow globe while children waited in line to present their Christmas lists. Face painting was also available for the kids, and an ice skating rink was set up along the riverside.

"There's people strolling around, Mickey Mouse is here, there's tons of people, there's plenty of goodies out there on the street, there's lots to do," said Carol Burgess of Apalachin.

The river was lit up by fireworks as the event's grand finale.
