(WBNG Binghamton) The New York State Senate announced Wednesday the passing of a bill to ban Palcohol, or powdered alcohol in the state.
According to the New York State Senate, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved powdered alcohol this past April. The FDA then quickly reversed its decision, calling it an "error."
The bill would specifically prohibit anyone from selling or consuming any powdered alcohol product.
Local law enforcement said the new form of alcohol could become a serious risk.
"If it doesn't have an odor, if it doesn't have a taste that tastes like alcohol, for sure they can mix it into Gatorade or whatever and take it to school with them," said Binghamton Police Officer Kevin Brown.
The creator of Palcohol, Mark Phillips, said it's ridiculous to think that this is any more dangerous than liquid alcohol and it shouldn't be treated any differently.
If the bill passes in the assembly it will be one of four states fighting for a ban.
