Town of Union, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) Endwell Rotary Club hosted their weekly meeting Tuesday with guest speaker Julie Anne Marra, a local registered pharmacist with nearly 20 years of experience.
It was an opportunity for club members to present questions they hadn't thought to or were too embarrassed to ask their pharmacists.
Marra says this is a common occurrence that can have a negative effect on a person's care.
"If I know exactly what's going on, I can help you better, I can recommend something better, but if you leave stuff out or feel embarrassed, then it's hard for me to help you," Marra said.
She says far too many of her patients fail to seek and understand how various drugs interact.
"They're taking prescription medications, but if they're taking vitamins or supplements or over-the-counter medications, are there interactions, are there side effects?" she added.
Marra encourages people to build an open and honest relationship with their pharmacist and to ask any questions they may have.
