Police: Man arrested for sexual assault

Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Binghamton man was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman in Ithaca.

Ithaca Police responded to the intersection of Wood Street and S. Plain Street on July 21 just before 1 p.m., after a concerned citizen called 911 to report a young woman being chased by a man with no shirt on.

The citizen told police the woman was crying when he approached her. She said she did not know the man following her and that he had grabbed her and attempted to grope her as she was walking.

When the concerned citizen approached the woman, the suspect tried to run away. The citizen chased him around the Wood Street area until police arrived.

Matthew Kriewald, 30, of Binghamton, was charged with one count of forcible touching and one count of unlawful imprisonment.

Kriewald was taken to the Tompkins County Jail on $3,000 bail.
