Binghamton (WBNG Binghamton) 2 year old Lyric Taft was found dead on December 30, 2010.
Nearly 8 months later Binghamton Police have arrested and charged his mother for the boy's death.
Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski and Mayor Matt Ryan held a media conference Friday morning, releasing a few more details on the death of Lyric Taft.
Binghamton Police charged Veronica Taft, 24, of Baldwinsville, with second degree murder in connection with the death of Lyric Taft.
Taft had lived 4 1/2 Fayette Street in Binghamton at the time of her son's death.
She was arrested at Broome County Social Services Thursday, and remains at Broome County Jail without bail.
Chief Zikuski says there were several factors that made this case a difficult one, including dealing with small children.
"After an autopsy, it was determined that severe trauma was the cause of death," said Zikuski.
Police would not comment when asked if Veronica had a boyfriend or a husband at the residence at the time of the toddler's death.
Police said Veronica Taft is the only one charged for Lyric's death, but also said the investigation is still open.
Chief Zikuski says that case will go to a Broome County Grand Jury next week.
