Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The treasurer of a local youth soccer association is accused of draining the organization of its savings and spending it on herself.

Vestal police arrested Sandra Scharnikow, of Schuyler Street in Endicott, late last month.

Scharnikow, 47, is facing felony charges for allegedly stealing $17,400 from the Vestal Recreational Youth Soccer Association.

Scharnikow was the organization's treasurer at the time of the theft, according to police, and her name still appears on the association's website.

Police said the thefts happened between June 8, 2012, and Dec. 21, 2012.

They said the woman made several withdrawals during that time from Citizens Bank locations in Vestal and Endicott.

Scharnikow faces a charge of grand larceny in the third degree, and could spend up to seven years in prison if convicted.

Leaders of the youth soccer association declined to comment Monday, other than saying the $17,400 was their entire savings.
