Cortland, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An unruly football crowd Saturday turned into a scene City of Cortland Police couldn't handle alone.
Cortland Police Chief Mike Catalano said a number of neighboring police agencies, including units from Broome County, were called in to help.
The chief said there were large crowds downtown for the Ithaca College-SUNY Cortland football game, an event that's part of what's known as "Cortaca" weekend. When the crowd became too much to handle, back-up was called in.
"This year it did get pretty large and pretty disruptive on a couple of our city streets, and we were a little overwhelmed," Catalano said.
Broome County emergency communications confirmed multiple patrols did go to Cortland to help out.
While Action News crews were on the scene in Cortland, police arrested several people.
Catalano said there were more arrests, along with a few injuries. He also said a lot of people were throwing beer bottles and beer cans.
According to WTVH, police made roughly 30 arrests.
