Police catch man with fireworks, find heroin

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) While on patrol, Binghamton police officers discover a man illegally setting off fireworks.

The officers were dispatched to 9 Eaton Place for an unrelated complaint.

While there, they heard fireworks outside the building.

They found Joaquin Molina-Cartagena, 44, of Binghamton, setting them off.

He had an outstanding arrest warrant for drug possession.

During his arrest, they found 209 envelopes of heroin hidden in the front of his pants.

They discovered it after one of the envelopes fell out.

Molina-Cartagena is being held at the Binghamton Police Department.

He is charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, a class B felony, one count of unlawfully dealing with fireworks, a violation, and one count of outstanding arrest warrant for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree, issued by City of Binghamton Court.
