Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton police are investigating a weekend homicide that left a man dead.
According to Police, Bretnie "Sha" Owens, 44, was found dead at 11:20 a.m. in his apartment on June 15.
Owens lived on the first floor of an apartment home on 11 Stone Street in Binghamton.
Police are calling his death a homicide.
He's being remembered by neighbors as a good father, brother and a great uncle.
"I'm sick. I can't sleep, I can't eat. I'm sad," said Jazz Moore who lived half of a block away from Owens. "I'm crying all of the time. I want him to answer the phone when I call. I want him to come walking up the block calling for me."
A small memorial has been setup on the front porch of Owens' apartment where he used to sit.
"(He) seemed good with his stepson, I believe, so I respected that from him," said Robert Dupri who lived directly across the street from Owens. "(He was) a fine neighbor in a sense. He kept to himself pretty much and didn't really bother anybody."
Dupri said Stone Street is normally quiet and he's shocked to find out Owens was killed.
Action News spoke with a woman who lives in the basement of the apartment home.
She said off camera she heard some rustling on the floor above her the night before Owens was found but didn't think anything of it. She didn't hear any screaming or yelling.
Police have not released any information related to the cause of the death.
