Newark Valley, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Law enforcement agencies take a man into custody after being in a standoff with him for hours on Friday morning.

The incident began around 4 a.m. Friday at 45 Rock Street in the village of Newark Valley.

Tioga County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic incident involving a firearm. When deputies arrived they removed an elderly woman from the home.

The Tioga County Sheriff's Office said a 38-year-old man barricaded himself inside the home. He was taken into custody without incident just before 11 a.m.

His name has not been released.

The sheriff's office said the man was alone, but deputies believed during the standoff the man was armed and had threatened to harm himself.

The Sheriff's office is investigating and no charges have been filed.
