(WBNG Binghamton) Local jobs in the private sector increased while non farm jobs fell from August of 2012 to August of 2013, according to the State Department of Labor.
Locally, jobs increased by about 900 the private sector, going from 84,500 in August of 2012 to 85,400.
Private education and health saw a lot of that growth, as well as mining, construction, leasure and hospitality.
Locally on the non-farm end, jobs decreased from 106,300 last year to 105,900 this year.
Local and federal government, education and administration contributed to the hit, according to officials from the department of labor.
Statewide, unemployment fell from 8.6 in 2012 to 7.6 in August of 2013.
