Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The latest stop on Binghamton University's Road Map is calling for community involvement.

The Road Map program looks for improvements and growth for the school's future.

"People from the community talking about how the university and the community interacts, and also how we engage each other, and what should a premiere public university's role be in the community five years from now, 20 years from now," said Dr. Harvey Stenger, President of Binghamton University.

The Road Map program includes nine teams made up of 400 volunteers covering different areas of improvement.

The Community Engagement team created a public survey to get a better perspective of what residents think the school should do differently.

They cover partnerships, outreach, and activities between BU and the community.

"We've spread our ideas widely and we're about halfway done with the process, say we're about halfway home on the road map and the second half now is getting ideas, initiatives and innovations gathered from all the teams and be evaluated near the end of this semester," said Stenger.

The program is funded from the New York SUNY 2020 legislation that allows for SUNY tuition increases and accepting 2,000 more students over the next four years.

Members say the survey will help determine what goals should be included in the upcoming proposals on December 15th.

That's the deadline for when volunteers from each team need to present to the board.

"If we don't hear what people are interested in and looking for we wont know it, so all we can do is say please give us your ideas so we can talk about them and bubble the best ones to the top," said Stenger.

Each team is responsible for creating a budget proposal along with their ideas and initiatives.
