Apalachin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's the dog days of summer, and in celebration of the summer weather, pups from across the Southern Tier wore more than fur Saturday afternoon.

The W&W Nursery held the first Dog Days of Summer event in Apalachin.

Dogs wagged their tails in dogs in colorful and creative outfits.

Owner of the nursery, Ken Williams, said events like this are a fun and unique way to get the community involved.

"Basically we want to make people aware that there are a lot of dogs in need on a home out there and there are a lot of good things about getting a rescue dog," Williams said.

The contest cost $5 to enter and all donations will go toward Shelter Slam, which benefits local animal shelters.

Williams went on to say that he hopes to make this an annual event.
