Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton University is helping to support the Broome County Toys for Tots' mission, working on giving every child a Christmas.

BU presented a check of $5,000, that's $500 more than last year.

The money is raised through the annual John Mangino Golf Tournament.

Golfers were asked to bring a small toy to the tournament, or a $5 donation.

Money was also raised through raffles and door prize drawings.

" Last year we had a total of 3,406 children that we had gotten toys to just to Broome County. What's so good about the Broome County toys for tots is all the money that we raise, and all the toys we bring in stay in Broome County," said President of the Broome County Toys for Tots, Steve Ward.

Toys for Tots was started more than 40 years ago by the Binghamton Police Department.

The first toy drive of the season is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Endicott Elk's Lodge.
