Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The July Fourth event at Highland Park this year might be a little more colorful than in years past.

The Town of Union Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the 2014 Colors of Freedom 5k run.

The run will start at 9 a.m. on July Fourth and during the run, participates will have the option of being sprayed with red or blue powder.

Tom Cassin, Deputy Commissioner of Public Works Recreation, said the run is a great way to bring everyone together.

"The Colors of Freedom Run is a way to bring the community together, to celebrate the community itself, to celebrate our country, to celebrate our freedoms, and to celebrate our service personnel both past and present," said Cassin.
