Rates on the rise in Endicott

Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Village of Endicott residents will soon be paying higher rates for water and sewer use.

A state audit released Wednesday shows tentative budgets for the village's water and sewer funds are not balanced. And each includes a deficit of more than $200,000.

Mayor John Bertoni Bertoni said for the average user, water rates will increase about $2 and sewer rates will increase $4.

He said the deficit is caused by continued flood recovery efforts, including costly repairs for a sewer plant badly damaged by the September 2011 flood. Bertoni also said the village will search for a well for another water source.

Bertoni said increasing rates is the only solution to fixing the deficit.
