Sayre, PA (WBNG Binghamton) A little more than four months ago, a pizza shop in Bradford County burned to the ground. Wednesday, they dug deeper into the ground for a new beginning.
Howie's Pizza and Subs, on S. Keystone Avenue in Sayre, held their groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning at their original spot.
Owner Don Howard says plans to rebuild began soon after his restaurant was reduced to rubble.
Howard, who is also the Waverly-Barton Fire Chief, responded to a structure fire call, during the early morning hours of Nov. 20, only to realize that it was his business on fire.
"I got down here and I stepped aside and let the guys do their thing and just sat here watching my livelihood, my wife and I's livelihood absolutely go up in flames, literally," Howard said."From there on I said I'm not going to let the fire beat me, I've always put it out and I'm not letting it beat me."
Howard says the memories of the "old Howie's" will always be there, but this is a new beginning for the pizza shop and community.
He hopes to have the restaurant up and running by July.
