Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Owego Revitalization Betterment Cooperation wants to help neighbors and businesses come back after September's floods.
This morning, Kevin Millar, President of the ORBC and members of the organization walked the streets of Owego, presenting checks to several village businesses.
Angel's Diner, The Smoke Shop, West Main Street Deli, and The Cellar Restaurant were all given checks between $500 and $1,000.
The money comes from local donations and concerts held around the village.
The ORCB hopes to raise more money to donate in the coming months.
"I got to tell you I think this is the best part," said Millar. "It's the most enjoyable. You know, it's just been a long process of rebuilding and recovering. It's going to take another year or two for the village to come back to somewhat of a normal state."
"I'm very thankful," said Bob Layman, the owner of the Cellar Restaurant. "[It's] One thing I didn't expect because there are a lot of other places that were hit and I did have some flood insurance to take care of things."
The owner of Mario's Restaurant would not accept the check, saying there are many other businesses that could use it before they needed it.
If you or your company is interested in helping, you can give Millar a call at the ORBC at (607) 687-3263.
