(WBNG Binghamton) In Albany Friday afternoon, Governor Andrew Cuomo said he plans to veto the proposed redistricting maps released Thursday by the legislature.
There continues to be some controversy over the maps released by the legislature's redistricting task force.
Assemblyman Clifford Crouch says he's also disappointed that politics has not been removed from the process.
"It appears it's all drawn to preserve their members, and to be able to look at how they are going to get their members or somebody new re-elected down the road," says Crouch.
The proposal has Crouch's 107th district becoming the 122nd.
He will lose much of eastern Delaware County while gaining towns to the north in Chenango and Otsego counties.
Crouch criticized the task force's decision to keep open districts, while still forcing other legislators to compete for one.
Since neither party has the two-thirds majority to override the Governor's veto, they will have to negotiate with Governor Cuomo.
Public hearings start next Monday in New York City and continue through mid-February.
The closest hearing to Binghamton will happen in Syracuse on February 14th.
