Victim hospitalized in Elmira shooting

Elmira, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Elmira police responded to a reported shooting early Monday night.

Police were dispatched to the 400 block of West 1st Street at approximately 6:43 p.m.

Details are limited, however according to police reports, two people got into a physical altercation around that time.

The two are believed to have known each other, police said in a news release.

The victim, whose name was not released late Monday, was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The severity of the victim's injuries is unknown, but do not appear to be life-threatening.
